Eugene Donald Moore (Capt. Don Moore) made it to heaven on April 28, 2012. Don Was born December 28, 1941 in Livingston, Texas as an only child. Don and his family moved to Conroe in 1945, being one of the early "settlers" in the old Humble Camp, before migrating to the original Tanglewood subdivision. He always loved the great outdoors, as evidenced by his being awarded both the Eagle Scout and Sea Boy Scout badges. He attended the Conroe ISD and graduated from Conroe High School in 1961. He attended Sam Houston State University for a short while and then served in the US Air force as an Air Policeman. While working as an iron worker in Houston, he was exposed to his ultimate career, that being a professional firefighter. He consequently joined the Houston Fire Department on March 13, 1968 and after almost 26 years, retired as a Senior Captain on November 4, 1993. After retirement he lived in Freeport/ Surfside for about ten years, where he lived the good life of either hunting, fishing or "Hammocking" on a daily basis. He finally moved back to Conroe and subsequently back to work, gainfully employed until recently at the Gun Emporium Skeet Range. He always loved all types of guns and the shooting sports and became quite adept with a shotgun. Like Mr. Moore Sr., Don was a dedicated Mason. Additionally, he was a thankful member of the First United Methodist Church, the Garden Café Breakfast Club, the Houston Firefighters Retired Officers Association, and a proud Life Member of the National Rifle Association.
