EDWARD JACKSON, JR. 1932-2018 Edward Jackson, Jr. died peacefully on February 20, 2018 surrounded by his family. Edward was born in Opelousas, La. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward Jackson, Sr., and Beatrice Jaspser Jackson; siblings, Allen Jackson, Howard Jackson, Doris Tyree White, Emma Thomas and Hester Mae Adams; daughter Cynthia Jackson and in-laws Earnest and Cora Jones.
Edward served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a Houston Fire Department employee for 30 years and retired as an Inspector in the Public Education Department. He was an active member of the Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church.
Mr. Jackson is survived by his loving wife, Erma Jones Jackson, son Edward Jackson IV; four grand children LaDondra, Darnicia, Edward IV, Clifton and four great-grand children. He is also survived by one brother Earl Jackson, four sisters-in-law and three God daughters, Sabrena Jones, Aria Johnson and Deja Keys.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00a.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church, 8775 Flagship Dr., Hou., Tx. Burial will be Tuesday 02/27/2018 @ the Houston National Cemetery.

Eugene "Duke" Jahnke, A native Houstonian and retired Houston Fire Fighter, was received into the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ on September 14, 2003 after a valiant battle with cancer. Duke was born on July 23, 1934 to August and Mollie Jahnke. His parents, 3 sisters and 6 brothers preceded him in death. He especially loved his family and was never too busy to spend time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Robbie Jackson Jahnke; sons David and wife Terri, Gary and wife Oti, John and wife Katherine, and daughter Jan Jahnke Wedgeworth and her husband Doyce. He will also be greatly missed by his 9 grandchildren: Zech, Micah, Clint, Keith, Andrew, Ashlee, Jason, Morgan, and Connor. Brothers, Ernie and Olin. Duke loved his classic cars, gardening, and visiting with the many friends made throughout life's journey. He served in the Houston Fire Department for 40 years, all the while showing affection and loyalty for the men and women of his courageous organization. Duke began his fire-fighting career in 1955 and moved through the ranks to retire as Assistant Fire Chief in 1995. He was a member of the Houston Fire Fighters Credit Union Board and was also an active member at Southwinds Baptist Church. Duke was known as a husband, father, brother, grandfather, best friend and to many simply, Chief. He put the wind under our wings and the power of God's love in our hearts. The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 9:00 p.m., Monday, September 15, 2003 at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home, 13102 North Freeway, Houston Texas. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2003 in the chapel of Earthman Resthaven. Jay Paul Jahnke  Houston Fire Fighter Captain Jay Paul Jahnke, age 40, died in the line of duty Saturday, October 13, 2001. He was a Houston Fire Fighter with 20 years of service most recently assigned to Station # 2. Captain Jahnke was a member in good standing of Houston Professional Fire Fighters Local # 341, Swift Water Rescue and was
HAZ-MAT Certified\. He was also a Chief Safety Officer with Cy-Creek Volunteer Fire Department, citizens Fire Academy. He was a member of Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, acting as an investigator for the rodeo's safety committee. But of all the certifications that Jay had, he was a devoted husband, dedicated father and well rounded friend and family man. He was preceded in his death by his father District Chief Claude Devale Jahnke. He is survived by his wife Dawn; daughter Jayne; son Hunter; mother Katherine K. Jahnke; sisters Karen Johnson and husband Rod, Marianne McNeill and husband Tommy; brother Jeff and wife Linda; also surviving are his mother and in-laws Dianna and Harvey Newcomb, sister-in-law Natalie Newcomb Cloud; and numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be held for Captain Jahnke 4:00 - 8P.M. Tuesday, October 16, 2001 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston.  Funeral Services will be held 11:00 A. M., Wednesday, October 17, 2001 in the Worship Center of Second Baptist Church, 6400 Woodway @ Voss with Pastor Donald Black of Trinity Lutheran Church officiatiing.

Steven  Scott Jahnke, 59, of Houston, died early Wednesday morning August 15, 2007 after a 10 month battle with Melanoma Cancer. Steve was born December 27, 1947 in Houston, Texas. A life-long Houstonian, he graduated from Reagan High School in 1966. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Reneé, their four children and their families, Eric (wife Laura Kay, daughter Reagan), Holley (husband Adam, daughters Abby and Megan), Laura (husband Jaron, children Grace and Maddox) and Greg (wife Sharla, children Logan, Lacey, and Caden). He is also survived by his mother, Fae, sister Laura Hauck and husband Ed, and sister Susan as well as many other family members. Steve married his wife, Renee', on June 1, 1970 in the Salt Lake Temple where they were sealed for time and all eternity. From 1967 to 1969 Steve served as a missionary in the Alaskan-Canadian Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Steve served many callings in the Church. He taught Sunday School classes, worked with the youth, served in the Houston Texas Temple, and held various leadership positions. Throughout his life, Steve was heavily involved in the Boy Scouts of America. He was a Life Scout, and as an adult received his Woodbadge Award. Steve graduated from the University of Houston with his BS in Technology in 1978. He followed in his fathers footsteps proudly serving the City of Houston for over 35 years as a member of the Houston Fire Department. He taught fire school with his father, Roe, at Texas A&M University and taught for many years at Houston Community College in the Fire Technology program. He was a District Chief and was loved and respected by all. Viewing will be Thursday August 16, from 5-9pm at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery 13102 North Freeway. Services Friday August 17 at 10am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 16535 Kleinwood Dr.

35 Years, 5 Months, and 26 days ~ Station 45, D shift

A 1966 Graduate of Reagan High School. From 1967 to 1969 Steve served as a missionary in the Alaskan-Canadian Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1978 he received a BS in Technology from the University of Houston. Husband of Renee' for 37 years. They married on June 01, 1970 in the Salt Lake Temple and were sealed for time and all eternity. Father of son Eric and his wife Laura Kay, daughter Holley and her husband Adam, daughter Laura and her husband Jaron and son Greg and his wife Sharla. Grandfather of Eric and Lauras daugher Reagan, Holley and Adams daughters Abby and Megan, Laura and Jaraons children Grace and Maddox and Greg and Sharla's children Logan Lacey and Caden. Steve is the son of Marvin Malcolm "Roe" Jahnke, and Fae Jahnke. Both Chief Roe and Chief Steve taught fire school at Texas A & M together and Steve taught Fire Technology at Houston Community College in the Fire Technology program for many years. Steve's nephew Captain Jay Paul Jahnke was killed in the line of duty on October 13, 2001. His uncle was Chief Claude Devald Jahnke. The Houston Fire Department Training Academy is named in honor of Steve's uncle Val Otto Jahnke.
Chief Jahnke was a highly respected member of the Houston Fire Department. He will be greatly missed.
Steve served many callings in the Church. He taught Sunday School classes, worked with the youth, served in the Houston Texas Temple, and held various leadership positions.
Throughout his life, Steve was heavily involved in the Boy Scouts of America. He was a Life Scout, and as an adult received his Woodbadge Award.

Firefighter/EMT Cohnway Matthew Johnson  26, of Rockdale, Texas passed away on Monday evening, May 4, 2009 at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas. A 2001 graduate of Pflugerville High School, Cohnway attended Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches. He graduated from Taylor Fire Academy in May 2004. Cohnway served as a Firefighter/EMT with fire departments in the Yoakum, Manor, Oak Hill and Westlake areas. He was currently with the Houston Fire Department. Cohnway was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jack B. Britton, Sr. He is survived by his parents, Clifford M. and Candy Johnson; his brother, Christopher M. Johnson and wife Monica; one niece, Logan C. Griffin and one nephew, Sterling Michael Johnson, all of Rockdale. He is also survived by his grandmother, Bernice Britton; grandparents, Clifford and Mary Lou Johnson; aunt, Pamela Shannon; uncle, Jack Britton, Jr. and wife Lynn; Godparents, Luther and Nell Dube; along with numerous cousins and the Brotherhood of Fellow Firefighters. Visitation will be Friday, May 8, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, May 9, 2009 at the Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. Burial with honors will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery. After the clouds, the sunshine, after the winter, the spring, after the shower, the rainbow, for life is a changeable thing. After the light, the morning, bidding all darkness cease, after life's cares and sorrows, the comfort and sweetness of peace. MR. JAMES JOHNSON, JR. entered into Eternal Rest on October 21, 2008. His life will be celebrated, Saturday, the 25th day of October at 11 AM at St. Agnes Church, 3730 South Acres. Visitation will be Friday, the 24th day of October from 6 - 8 PM at the church. Mr. Johnson will lie in state at Mabrie Memorial Mortuary from 1 - 4:30PM. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Mrs. Annie Johnson; daughters and son, Ernestine Carr (Wendell), Reggie Johnson and Kay Michelle Fuselier (Darrell); sister, Francis Williams; 3 grandchildren, Angelica Carr, Darcy Howard and Geovante Riggins; 2 great grandchildren, Karla and Kennade Howard and many other dear relatives and friends

 

 

        Leonard Herman Johlke 84, a native Houstonian, died on February 7, 2011. He was born on March 16, 1926. Leonard was a member of the Houston Fire Department for 30 Years. He served honorably in the US Navy during WWII and was a 32nd degree mason.
He is survived by his brother Lawrence Johlke, Houston; daughter Linda Zatopek (spouse George Farmer) Silver City, NM; step-daughter Annette Buss, Austin TX; step-sons Wayne Perry (spouse Peggy) and Larry Lee Perry, Houston TX, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving Wives: Anna Lee Johlke (April 1997) and Pat Stacy Johlke (September 2009) A Memorial service will be held on Friday; February 11, 2011 at 1:30pm at Tallowood Baptist Church 555 Tallowood, Houston, TX 77024. Kenneth Ray Judd, 72, went to rest in the loving arms of our Lord January 7, 2007 after a short, courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Judd, born on July 29, 1934 in Halletsville, Texas, was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Marcela Waterwall Judd; their three children, Donald Ray Judd, Oscar Garcia and wife Silvia, Christella Whitcher and husband Charles; 6 grandchildren, Brittany Rae Judd, Jeffrey, Jennifer and Jeremy Garcia, Carrie Whitcher Sanguinetti and husband Fredy and Charles Alan Whitcher; 5 great grandchildren, Arielle, Fredy (Trey) and Roger Sanguinetti, Maddyn and Jordan Johnson along with many nieces and nephews. Mr. Judd retired from the Houston Fire Department in 1994 after 32 years of service. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy from 1953 to 1957 aboard the USS Shangri-La (CVA 38 ). In 1984, Mr. Judd earned the Subline Degree of a Master Mason and in 1990, he joined the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine in the Arabian Temple. He was an avid fisherman and hunter but his passion was Texas Holdem poker. He will be dearly missed by all. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at Woodlawn Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM , Wednesday, January 10, 2007 in the Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home. Funeral service for E. Hubert Johnson, 78, of Douglass, Texas, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 24, 2010, at Laird Funeral Home with the Rev. Bailey Alders officiating. Burial will follow at Alazan Cemetery. E. Hubert Johnson, born September 8, 1931 in Seedtick, Texas, peacefully passed away July 19, 2010. He was joyously reunited with his son, Richard Lee; grandson, T.J. Perkins; parents, Adron and Delma Johnson, four brothers and two sisters for their heavenly journeys with the Lord. He was a man of strength, strong faith, gentleness and compassion for others. He loved his family and friends and thought of each one as a blessing. Hubert loved hunting trips with the family at their deer leases, gardening, caring for his many farm animals, working flea markets with his wife, Betty, and playing spades with his beloved brother, J.D., and others. Hubert was married at 21 years of age to his 16-year-old bride, Betty Irene "Betty Lou" Anderson, and they raised four children together. Hubert was raised with a very strong work ethic, beginning as a child on the family farm. He spent 25 years as a professional firefighter for the city of Houston. His most memorable experience was falling through the roof of the old Joy Theatre and fighting the fire at City Hall. After retiring from the Houston Fire Department in 1975, he moved his family back home where they worked together operating the Douglass Cafe for 22 years. Among his other many jobs, he worked for Indian River, the city of Nacogdoches and K.J. Ranch and did custom hay baling, was maintenance director at Oak Grove Baptist Church, and served proudly as justice of the peace, Precinct 1 for four years. Judge Johnson said, "... I'd like to think I helped a lot of people." Hubert is survived by wife of 57 years, Betty Johnson of Douglass; four children; Allen Johnson and wife, Cheryl, of Douglass; Diana Loring and husband, Grant, of Mesquite; Linda Perkins and husband, Terry Sr., of Douglass. Eleven grandchildren; Pamela "Pam Pam" Clark, Kenneth "Kenny" Johnson and wife, Mandy, Mitch "Peanut" Perkins, Jr. and wife, Laura, Rodney "Little Rodney" Whitaker Jr., Sue Beth "Buffy" Johnson, Michael "Bubba" Perkins and wife, Meredith, Terry "Toot" Perkins Jr., Morgan Perkins, Justin Elliot and Brandon Elliot; fourteen great-grandchildren, Ashton Wagley, Tate Clark, Hannah Johnson, Carson Johnson, Cody Jones, Kenleigh Grace Perkins, Madalyn Iris Whitaker, Kayla Johnson, Khloe Bell Perkins, Karen Elizabeth Perkins, Catherine June Perkins, Katie Johnson, Chandler Weisenburg and Faith Elliot; brothers and sisters, J. D. Johnson and Ginger of Nacogdoches, Louise Rogers and Harold of Nacogdoches, Opal Hall of Douglass, Frances Rogers of Douglass and Mildred Primm of Allentown; and sister-in-law, Margie Johnson of Nacogdoches. Hubert was the eighth of 13 kids. He loved all of his brothers and sisters dearly, and considered J.D. his "best friend." Those he considered like family were Mitch Perkins Sr. and sons, Joseph and Jerrod and Jan Holland, and Ismael Morales. Hubert was a good man with a sweet soul and spirit and a tender touch, and he will be missed by all who loved him. Pallbearers will be Shane Thompson, Mark Norman, Jay Beard, Gabe Scott, Sam Scott and Devlin Allums. Honorary pallbearers will be John L. Known to many as "Pappy Jay" died at the home of his niece, Mrs. Bonnie Maud Kittenger. He had lived in Houston 45 years, and prior to his retirement, was a city fireman for 26 years. He is survived by three nieces, Mrs. Kittenger, Mrs. C. J. Hauser, of Houston, Mrs. W. R. Collins of Galveston; a nephew, R. Frank Mendel of Galveston; five grand nieces and nephews.
